Their Story
Meet Truly
“Came True” aka “Truly” (nickname) was found roadside in Moapa Valley on May 17, 2015. Her feet, coat and body condition were all well maintained. She is now 18 yrs old as of 2022 and was raced in California until 2007 and last jockeyed by 2015 Triple Crown winner Victor Espinoza. Her tattoo # is H06373.
These photos represent Truly’s amazing journey to recovery and ultimately adoption in 2017. She spent 5 years in a loving home but has returned due to family circumstances and through no fault of her own. We look forward to finding her a new forever home.

Truly aka “Came True” is a thoroughbred mare found roadside near Moapa, NV with terrible wounds

This gaping shoulder wound is so bad, a human hand can get lost inside

Her cheek is broken but she can still eat her mash and is on pain control

A very sweet horse despite the trauma, we helped network her story to thousands in hopes of finding the owner

Xrays reveal multiple breaks to the cheekbone on one side of her skull

Cuts to the fetlock joints

A care package of MediHoney products donated from JazzMed arrives

Careful application of products to different areas help to heal

A breathable mesh hood from Sleazy Sleepwear for Horses helps keep bandaging in place and flies away

Chest wound after 10 days of care

Jaw wound is also a gaping hole to heal

Custom made fly mask (by Beverly Young) and donated shoulder wrap keep her wounds clean
Week 2 Update
No one has come forward to claim her so she now legally belongs to L.E.AN. Truly’s progress is variable – the wounds are healing well with no signs of infection, no fever, and her appetite remains good. However, she’s become 3-legged lame and does not wish to put any weight on the left fore. Xrays being done to evaluate circulation in all legs and hopefully reassess the shoulder. Acupuncture treatments have been started. Her shoes have been removed and she’s in Softrides.

Equine Bodyworker Nichole Snashall donates her services to help Truly with weekly massage therapy

Progress through the first two weeks is encouraging thanks to Medihoney and JazzMed.com
Update
Thankfully all Truly’s films came back negative – no rotation or circulation issues in the feet, and a very nice shot of the shoulder joint showed no damage. Bloodwork clear, no signs of infection. Her major issue is still soft tissue damage and the discomfort during recovery. Truly’s been started on muscle massage (donated by Equine Bodyworker Nichole Snashall) to help loosen her stiffness and bring relief to sore areas.

Truly stood square for nearly the entire massage – great proof that her shoulder is healing

Week 8 Update
Truly’s wounds are healing remarkably well. She’s so much better after her Bodywork sessions that we are moving her up to twice a week. New ultrasounds of the shoulder and Xrays show that despite her inability to walk normally, healing is tracking forward. Thanks for all the prayers and support!

Week 12 Update
Truly is doing fantastic and is ready for the next step in her recovery. She relocated to her 2nd foster home which has a large arena that she spends the nights in, self exercising and regaining her balance. She even trots to the fence for her grain! Massage treatments continue with amazing results and she’s settled in well to her new environment. She’s a survivor!

The chest wound is virtually closed now and the only remaining is her fetlock wound due its tricky location.

She’s much more vocal, she rolls and loves her daily baths.
Week 21 Update
The chest wound is fully closed now, as are her jaw wounds, and the fetlock wounds are finally healing. Truly has been started on light groundwork at the walk and is still receiving weekly massage. The hard scar tissue is breaking up and her movement is becoming more fluid.
